Grand Rum Round (Wilson Round?)
Based on the 1000ft route that got walk of the month by tedtheisinger in walk the highlands, however I added the summit Sgaorishal to clean every named prominent peak on OS maps. Anyway pretty epic adventure! Started around 4am and had a crazy sun rise that prior was a blood red sky. First couple of hills went by fine, then the descent off the back of Askival was pretty loose down climbing in gullies, epic views of all the small isles that were unlocked by reaching other summits. Finished the cuillin in just over 5 hours with 2 added summits, the plod down to runsival Was awkward, not as much as the Chossy scramble off it! Then found a braw stalker path and took a detour to see the Harris Odyssey Mausoleum, so out of place but cool! Kinda marked half way, but with a bit more of the climbing done the pull up to Arn Nev was tough as the mid day heat was starting to talk hold. Next section went by ok, but could have been made a decent bit more efficient if the route didn’t visit every single cairn on Orval. Another heinouse Chossy tussocky descent and pull up to bloodstone hill, with braw views of Canna! Huge plod up the glen and eventually finding water next hill was chill and the last hill over 400mtrs. The last 3 summits were tussock masochism at its finest! Slightly miffed total time ended up just over 14 hours but so much of the route wasn’t really runnable, for me anyway. The guy who plotted the original route said he was the first to link what he did together in a oner and I added another peak so technically a NBD, and such I’ll refer to this round as the ‘Wilson Round’ 😂 ohh and the first guy took 21 hours to finish it so pleased to beat it🤙
