Ran with my Brooks Cascadias, a 12oz handheld with water and 4 gel packs, and my goal mile splits programmed into my watch. Started at the North Loop parking lot, ran 45 min, ate the first gel, drank some water. At 1:30 I was just below the summit. I tried eating another gel but I was breathing so hard that I couldn't make myself swallow it. Drank some more water at the top at 1:46ish. Ran down to the Griffith Junction, where I ate another gel and drank the rest of my water. My quads were really tired by the time I got to the south loop parking lot. The last .6mi is uphill again, and it felt like torture. I tried to run it, but ended up walking it in to the north loop parking lot. Got cheered by a ranger as I finished haha.
I had hoped to get the CR for the Strava segment that roughly follows the same route, but I failed to realize that the segment required going ~10ft beyond the Charleston summit to the flagpole, which I did not do.
