A preliminary recce run around the Dartmoor 600s route which turned into an FKT due to going well, and in the context of doing it in the middle of winter, where conditions were both wet and icey, likely was not going to get any quicker! Carried all my stuff - middle of winter, so really only needed a litre or two of water and a couple of energy bars. Waterproofs were essential although fortunately the weather was quite kind given the time of year.
The first half of the route was largely characterised by babies' heads and marshland, which is especially unpleasant to run over with no proprioception in one leg! Having said that, although the going was slow to the first Tor, it wasn't bad, just tedious.
From there, and pretty much from until the top of Yes Tor, everything was pretty straightforward. The route down to the river crossing at approx. 23km was a pretty howling slope, and the crossing point required to be changed to the other side of the weir from the Summer route due to the volume of water in the river, however the crossing (4th of the day, and in 4 celsius, far from ideal!) was simple enough.
From there, a very straight shot to the finish line, albeit slightly later than I had hoped due to a slow start meaning that I finished in the dark. All in all a good day out.
