13 hours 34 minutes 5 seconds...that was how long it took me to run across Carteret County on August 9, 2014. I started at 4:05:00 AM touching the gate at the loading dock to the ferry at the Cedar Island Ferry and ended at 5:39:05 PM when I slapped my hand on the sign that said Leaving Carteret County. I posted 7 videos throughout the course of the day and they are uploaded to youtube. Here is a link to one, youtu.be/12xy2ciK3CM , and you can see the others from that one. Here are some notes I wrote upon completion:

- It took 13 hr 34 mins 5 sec to run the 66 miles across Carteret County, which is a 12 min 20 sec pace.

- We raised $7,235 for Carteret General Hospital's new Cancer Center that the company I work for, Rodgers, is currently building. That equates to $109.63/mile!

- I am going to register this feat on the Fastest Known Times website, which keeps track of running and hike records across various things (ie Appalachian Trail, States, etc). I hope someone attempts to break my record one day. I will come out and crew for them, and I promise I won't attempt to better my time...unless maybe they build a greenway along the entire stretch.

- Consumed 3,920 calories (290 cal/hr). This included two 12 oz cokes, 4 Reece's peanut butter cups, two Danish sugar cookies, and about half a bag of Kettle Cooked sea salt chips. The rest of my calories came from Tailwind Endurance powder mixed with water and pineapple or apple juice.

- I had pacers with me for 25 of the 66 miles, all of them after mile 34. In order of appearance, a huge thank you to: Alison, Amanda, John, Juan, Patrick, Harrison, Timothy, Burt, & Phil

- Fastest mile was the last mile. Garmin data had the last 0.61 miles at 7:48 pace and the mile before that was 9:15 pace. Extrapolating data, I'm around 8:15 for last mile.

- Not counting stoppage time, almost all of my miles were in the 9:00 to 11:00 pace range.

- First half marathon took 2 hr 2 min 40 sec which is a 9 min 22 sec pace.

- First marathon took 4 hr 21 min 45 sec which is a 9 min 59 sec pace.

- First 50k (31.0 miles) took 5 hr 22 mins 0 sec which is a 10 min 23 sec pace

- The Last 35 miles took me 8 hr 12 min 5 sec which is a 14 min 3 sec pace.

- First and only time I walked was at mile 42.80 for about 100 yards. This was during a tough time mentally when I didn't have any pacers, didn't have my phone to call anyone, wasn't sure where my stepdad, Tim (aka my crew chief) was, and was pretty sure he didn't know where I was either, as I forgot to tell him I was taking the longer route through downtown Morehead City.

So with that, and unless someone on here corrects me, I will claim the Fastest Known Time for running across Carteret County. I hope someone attempts to better this record one day.
