Padre Island National Seashore
66 miles down the 4th longest beach in the world in 13:45
WOW there’s so much to process here but the main feeling I’m left with is overwhelming gratitude and maybe a bit of disbelief that I finally accomplished this goal that’s been on my list since 2021. It’s rare that people get to drive the length of the island, let alone run it- such a privilege!
Weather: 15-20mph southeast wind (headwind) for the entire day, made it a lot more challenging that I hoped. Temps were low 70s in the morning, high of 85 (feels like 97 according to my Garmin). Definitely not what I had envisioned for but plans were in place!
Crew drove all my food, water, gear along the route using the mile marker poles as check points. I ran the the first 32 miles of the route solo, getting my handheld swapped from my crew every 5ish miles. Rotated a pacer with me every 5ish miles until the finish. Needed a lot of ice mid-day when the temps were high, had my gels and high-carb mix mostly but added in food to keep up calories.
