Report

This June, I set out to try and run the length of the Transcaucasian Trail through Armenia. I had no idea what to expect, and trail conditions, animals (especially giant sheepdogs), and weather meant that there was less running than planned - but we still finished within 22 days as planned! I had the amazing support of my partner, sister, and friend, which enabled me to carry a pretty light pack for most days with only the essentials, including emergency supplies for more remote mountain stretches. For the four day stretch covering the Gegham mountains, which were still covered in snow, I was joined by Executive Director of the trail, Meagan Neal, where we were self-supported, carrying food and provision for that 120km stretch. During the 22 days on the trail, I only met two other hikers - and most days I had limited contact with other people except for shepherds and herders in the hills, other than when I passed through towns. It was a very challenging but extremely rewarding experience - the diversity of the landscape from day to day was just incredible - I saw so many wildflowers, desert plants, grassy plains, and even snow!
