Decided to make a weekend of it and give this a crack the day after the fell relays. Thanks to Paul and Dom for getting the ball rolling on this route. Great weather conditions for running - clear and cold - but a surprising amount of mud around for this southerner. Luckily, I'd had a preview of the group conditions the day before, so opted for slightly spikier shoes. Was feeling pretty average after racing the day before, but got it done with the added motivation of chasing a time. Took far fewer selfies than Dom, but on the other hand, probably spent a lot more time looking at the map! On that note, I deviated from the gpx in a couple of places and followed the actual markers on the ground: once up to Warland Reservoir and then again on the drop to the river/canal from Stoodley Pike. Both deviations were a few hundred metres and I don't think they affected time either way, it just felt right to follow the signs. I guess the rights of way are being updated all the time, especially the reservoir detour which looked brand new. I didn't go for the double Lucozade at the finish but, contrary to Dom, I'd carried an extra half a litre of energy mix around the route untouched, so drank that instead! All in all, a fun way to spend a morning.
