Despite the chilly January weather, the day turned out to be perfect for my very first FKT. I was even lucky enough to have the route's creator, Brendan Pytka run it with me. We began at Newark Penn Station, getting some of the less scenic part of the route out of the way early on. The first 10 miles were a lot of running on major roads with traffic. We did cross two small bridges with some nice views, and it was fun to see the Manhattan skyline get closer and closer. When we got to Hoboken we made a pit stop at my apartment to refill water and pick up some snacks. Running across the George Washington Bridge was really exciting, definitely a highlight of the course for me! The Manhattan portion of the route was pretty easy and nice, we stayed on the running/bike path that travels along the Hudson and parallel to the west side highway. We ran south until we reached 34th street and from there it was only a few avenues west to reach NY Penn Station! As a local NJ commuter who has passed through both Penn Stations countless times, I thought this unique and creative urban running route was super fun to accomplish!
