I took the 10:30 waterbus from Tarbet to Inversnaid and started running just after 11. The first 2 kilometres involved a tough climb up past Arklet Falls with sections of bog and overgrown brambles. I gave up on my aim to keep my feet dry! There was then some beautiful trail along Loch Arklet before 20 kilometres of tarmac where I tried to keep a steady pace. Apart from the odd cyclist I didn't see many people until I approached Trossachs pier where a coach load of French tourists clapped me in! I filled up my water at the Scottish Water 'Top Up Tap' and the rain started just as I was leaving the car park. Undulating forestry paths led me around Loch Achray to Brig o'Turk where I resisted the pubs and cafes which looked like an inviting place to shelter. I ploughed on, up the second big climb of the day out of Glen Finglas visitors centre and up onto the path that traversed the flank of Ben Ledi. By this point, the weather had really turned and I was glad that the blustery wind and rain were at my back. With waterproofs on and less than 10 kilometres to go, I put my head down and trotted across the open moor land and down towards Kilmahog and along the old railway into Callander.
