Description

The route begins at Tom-Na-Kessaig (Hill of St Kessog) in Callendar and follows the Trossachs Path (runners route) to Inversnaid Pier on the shores of Loch Lomond.

It is a long distance path (30 miles/48 km) and part of the Scotlands Great Trail network of paths. It is therefore a fantastic long distance walk on its own or can be extended by connecting to other Great Trails. The Great Trossachs Path is a perfect way to take in stunning scenery along loch shores, hillslopes, mature woodlands rich in wildlife and history.

The route goes along the shores of several lochs, running alongside Loch Venacher from Callander to Big O'Turk, parallel to the A821. The trail then follows the West Route of Loch Achray, before passing the Loch Katrine visitor centre. The following 13 miles are a beautiful road alongside Loch Katrine, going around the East side of the Loch. The final segment takes you past Loch Arklet past the RSPB reserve and down into Intervesnaid.

The trail is a mixture of stoney tracks and tarmac paths (about 50% of each). The majority of the route could be cycled on, with the exception being the last 1.5 km's down to Inversnaid Pier, where the cycle path deviates from the running/walking trail.
