The Monroe Skyline may be my favorite section of the Long Trail. It's the perfect mix of technical, runnable, steep and gentle, not to mention the lovely emerald tunnel and the stunning views when the tunnel opens up. I ran Gap2Gap2Gap for the first time back in 2020 when I was extremely new to trail running and to longer days in the mountains. A few weeks ago I was perusing this site and came back across this route. I had no idea if I could complete it in under 6 hours but figured I'd give it a try. I brought plenty of calories, a filter flask and a soft flask. There was no water until the bottom of Mount Abe but luckily with slightly cooler temps and a bit of cloud cover, I felt I had sufficient fluids for the out, and refilled both flasks on my way back up Abe after tagging Lincoln Gap. The trail was impressively dry with only one or two wet muddy bogs along the ridge. As always, massive thanks to Dylan B and Jessie D for lowering this record and pushing the limit.
