I'd had my eye on the round for a few weeks, waiting for the ground to get slightly dryer. The day still had drizzle and plenty of mud underfoot, particularly around Hascombe and on the climb up to the hill at Blackheath, but I was still keen to get out and give it a go. The cool weather meant I could carry less water - lasted with 1L over the route with a few gels helping to top up liquids, which was just right. I know the route up to Hydon's Ball well, but the rest of the route was fairly new - multiple small navigation errors cost probably 5 minutes over the course of the round. Checking my watch near the finish I saw I could come n bang on 3:45, prompting a sprint finish up the highstreet to the Pepperpot. Will certainly be keen to get out and give it another go in good underfoot conditions and with better route knowledge.
The route itself is gorgeous and takes in some of the best bits of Godalming and the Surrey Hills - big thanks to Waverley Harriers for creating it.
