The Rim Trail is one of my favorite trails in the area (and a great trail to escape the heat of the desert floor below in warmer months), and since many races are still cancelled or postponed due to COVID, I decided to run the whole thing end-to-end in one go (unsupported).
I didn't have the day I wanted to out there and ended up having stomach problems from very early in the run causing me to move much slower and take many more breaks throughout the day than I expected. Nonetheless, I ended up finishing faster than anyone else has (as far as I can tell). Since I had unexpected problems, the time is very soft and I encourage others to give it a try. Although, if I do it again, I think I will go supported or self-supported as it was just a lot of water weight to carry since there are no sources to fill along the route. Also, since it's a one way route you need someone to pick you up or drop you off anyway.
This run was unsupported and I carried 1470 kcal and over 2.5 liters of water but I still ran out of fluids with an hour to go.
