What an amazing day. After designing a safe route that had significance, it was, unexpectedly, a completely sunny 92 degree day in early June. Felt perfect running through 30 miles. The 2nd half of the course is fully exposed to sun with minimal shade so it got toasty and I lingered at rest stops longer than anticipated. Ended up being hard to keep up on calories since I wasn't as heat acclimated given early June. Very glad we started before 6am. Nevertheless, with the support of my friend in his car and the support of another friend who logged some miles with me, we finished what we set out to do. Beautiful day running from the state capitol past horse farms, the animal safari and ending on the boardwalk. Looking forward to re-attempting when it's cooler to shave substantial time off the effort. Most direct route would have been 44 miles and change. We have dubbed this the Canal to Shore 44. Best of luck and enjoy to all those interested!
