Tumbledown Mountain is one of my favorite routes in Maine and I was surprised there wasn’t a male FKT set so figured I’d give it a shot for my first FKT attempt. I’m sure someone will be able to smash my time - and maybe already has?
Weather was perfect - 79 with low humidity. Struggled up to the ascent then was able to get some solid speed along the ridge, down Tumbledown Brook Trail, and back up the road to the Loop Trailhead. It’s a super popular route so there were others out on the trail despite it being a Tuesday. Note- it seemed like there were a couple sections where the trail is routed slightly differently than previous times I had completed this route.
This run was unsupported- I ran alone and carried a few gels and ~1.3L of water w/ some electrolytes all in a running vest.
With less breaks, better training, and proper hydration/nutrition I think I could definitely shave some solid time off. Hope to see others running this route!
