Tumbledown Mountain Trail is located in Weld, Maine. It is rough, and rugged terrain with an ascent that requires you to be on all fours the majority of the time, and to squeeze through a tight rock passage with ladder rings welded into the rocks. The ascent begins off the side of Weld Byron Road at the Loop trailhead. You ascend the Loop trail for a little over 1.6 miles before trekking across the top of Tumbledown Mountain for about 0.8 miles. You then begin your descent down Brook trail which is about 1.5 miles long. You then finish by running up Weld Byron Road, about 1 to 1.5 miles back to the Loop trailhead before finishing. The total route starting on Loop trail, across the top of Tumbledown, down Brook trail, and up Weld Byron Road was 5.51 miles. This trail truly shows the beauty of western Maine, both during the ascent and at the top.
