On October 16, 2021 I ran the Angleworm Lake Trail. I had ran it the previous fall and thought I had run it pretty fast but when I finished I found a hidden Strava segment that showed that someone had ran it more than 40 minutes faster. Then I created this segment to check for both clockwise and counterclockwise times. From that segment it looked like the fastest time was between 2:24:00 and 2:25:00 so that’s what I was aiming for, around 11:00 min/mile pace.
I started at 3:18 pm and went clockwise. Conditions were great, with temperatures around 55. I was still babying my right foot a bit, careful to not land on rocks when possible, and it felt good for the whole run. The last couple miles I knew it would be close time wise, but I got back to the trailhead sign at 5:43 pm, about 30 seconds faster than my best guess at the previous record. I consumed ½ liter of water and 200 calories. I saw one couple running and a solo hiker, a typical busy weekend day in the Boundary Waters. I ran by myself, unsupported. This is one of the most beautiful loops in the area!
