On January 21st I ran around Barkhamsted Reservoir (the main source of water for the city of Hartford). I had briefly looked into running around it a year ago, but it looked like there would be too many issues with private land. When it showed up on the site as a route I decided to look into it again. The roads along the sides of the reservoir are posted (apparently to protect the water supply). Whether or not this is intended primarily for vehicles I couldn't say, but I decided to avoid these gravel roads. If we treat this route as an open-course route, then I believe I followed the shortest legal route. This adds a few miles and considerable elevation. The single and doubletrack on the east side of the lake was very muddy and had several blowdowns from recent winds.
