FKT: Matthew Matta - Itasca Trail (MN) - 2021-07-02

On July 2, 2021 I ran out and back on the Itasca Trail near Grand Rapids, MN. After playing around on Strava I could only find one other person who had done this, with a pace around 8:30 per mile.

I started at the southern terminus, the Itasca County Fairgrounds, at 7:37 am. It was a beautiful morning with temps in the 60s. I made it to the turnaround at 8:25 am and back to the start at 9:13 am. I used 20 oz of water and 200 calories. I saw a few runners and a few cyclists. I ran by myself, unsupported

I’ve driven past this trail for decades but never fully realized it was there until this winter, researching possible FKT routes. Hopefully this will help other runners discover this beautiful trail!
