On January 26, 2021 I ran the Ouachita-Boardstand-Old Military Road Trails Loop. I started at 8:33am from Talimena State Park and ran counterclockwise. After the first couple miles going uphill I hit the beautiful ridge on the rocky Ouacita trail. I had a little trouble following the track on the NE corner of the loop. There are a lot of side trails in the area. The northern side of the loop was more runnable but still rocky. Toward the end you can see the road bed switchbacking up to the ridge. I got back to the trailhead at 1:56.
I consumed 800 calories and 1 1/2 liters of water (not enough). There were many streams to get water from since it just rained but signs at the trailhead warned that they can dry up quickly. There are several road access points where you could drop food and water but I carried all my gear from the start, unsupported. I saw no one on the entire loop. My watch gave me around 23.2 miles and 3,800 feet of ascent.
