On March 19, 2021 I ran the Scenic State Park Loop. I’ve been running in this park for years. I wasn’t sure if there could be an FKT route here, but I’m happy with how the loop turned out. I hope this helps more people find out about the beautiful Chase Point Trail.
I started at 6:46 am from the Chase Point trailhead and ran north along the west side of Coon Lake. It was dark when I started and I forgot to take a picture by my car but I got one a few hundred feet down the trail. I headed straight for the fire tower, then turned left and came back on the snowmobile/ski trail. Past the empty campground again, then down by Tell Lake. I finished with the out-and-back to Chase Point, the frozen lake on both sides of the esker as the sun rose.
It was a beautiful, crisp morning. There were a few trees down still from the mild winter we’ve had and a couple inches of snow in places, but both weren’t so bad so as to slow me down very much. I ran by myself, unsupported. I didn’t see anyone else in the entire park. I had about 8 ounces of water and no calories.
