On July 23 I ran the Wassataquoik-Katahdin Loop. I started with a friend and we ran most of this loop together but he was overheating and having some stomach trouble in the final several miles. After waiting for a while he insisted I go on and finish without him, making this effort supported. Started at Roaring Brook Campground and went clockwise, along the incredible ridgeline that leads to Katahdin. This is where the well-known Knife's Edge is. It's not as steep or scary as it looks in pictures and the rock is very solid, although the scrambling is slow. The first half of the loop actually is pretty technical and slow with most of the runnable sections coming in the last 10 miles. 2 1/2 liters of water, 1100 calories. We saw a bunch of people on Katahdin and 1 person in the last half of this loop, A beautiful sunny day with temps in the 70s and 80s.
