During our family holiday in the Chiemgau region, I took a day off and left wife and kids at the swimming pool to give my best at the Chiemgautour (thanks to all of them). On the one hand I was lucky, because after the coldest spring in 25 years I was able to run on a sunny and warm day. And since the area of the Geigelstein is a nature reserve and it is forbidden to enter this area from december 1st to may 31st, I ran at the first day of the official summer season. On the other hand there was still a lot of snow in the mountains, especially on the north sides of the four peaks. Because of the snow I got lost between the Weitlahnerkopf and the Geigelstein when I followed the wrong traces in the snow. That detour costed me at least 30 minutes and left some scratches on my legs, because I had to fight my way back through the mountain pines. Generally navigation and running was harder because of the snow. So I highly recommend to check the snow conditions before going out there.
For verification reasons I took the time and made entries in the summit books at the peaks of the Kampenwand, the Geigelstein and the Spitzstein (I couldn't find a summit book at the Hochries).
I was very happy to be able to run that route and be the first to submit a FKT for the beautiful Chiemgautour.
One thing to be aware of: close to the peaks of the Kampenwand and the Spitzstein alpine experience is a must-have. In those parts the trail is a so called "Klettersteig" with steel ropes and at least basic climbing abilities are required.
