Did this 50 miler go as planned? Nope (but why would I expect that 3 weeks post 100 miler?!?)! I ran into so many new problems that we had to improvise and adapt to, including:
🤧 A random allergy or bug that kept making us both go into coughing fits at random times and sometimes led to dry heaving 🤷🏻♀️
✅ We used mint military gum to stop the coughing as best we could
😫 I began having upper, right quadrant abdominal pain that felt like a knife stabbing me with every step at mile 32. I was ready to call Peter M DeReus and have him ready for an appendectomy, but thankfully Ashley is an RN and we ruled that out.
✅ I began taking Tums. It would help for 6 to 7 miles before it returned and I had to take another Tums. This lasted the rest of the run.
📝 Next run, I’ll add Zyrtec and Tums to my med kit!!
Despite this, we made it! And just by finishing, Ashley got her first 50 miler done, plus an unsupported female FKT! This is my second time running the length of the trail and setting an FKT. The last one was supported and beat within a year. My hope is that someone sees this and sets a new one!! Be inspired and go get it!! 😊
