Good experience overall. I intended to start at dawn, but got to the trailhead early so had a headlamp start. I experienced a variety of weather today. It was snowing on Heinan. My navigation skills aren’t the best, but I managed to do a good job finding my way over Heinan today. My first water refill was on the other side of Heinan in Deer Creek. Everything went smooth over Cervidae as well. The new wildlife corridor fences make it more difficult to get back to the road on West Cervidae, because the gates aren’t ideally located for runners, but it worked out fine. My second water refill was in Adelmann Creek before heading up and over Shaw. The wind was blowing all day with strong gusts. Reaching Lucky Peak Reservoir for my third water refill, I was relieved to be done with Hwy 21 and was able to mentally relax. Going up to Bonneville Point I saw 10 baby calves that were super cute. I took the Oregon Trail over to Blacks Creek Road for the long uphill slog to the Kepros Trailhead. At this point I knew I would finish, but my stomach had stopped taking nutrition a couple hours earlier and the effects were starting to take hold. I was pretty low energy at this point and struggled to get up and back down Kepros. But at least this was the easiest section of trail for the day. Mostly rollers with a few short steep sections. I managed to finish in 16 hours 3 minutes. I was hoping for a faster finish, but this effort was still good enough, by 22 minutes, for a new unsupported FKT.
