A very last minute run when a fastpacking trip was cancelled due to bad weather. I decided to go unsupported as there are regular trains back to Glasgow from Lanark (3km from the end of the trail).
I took a bit of food and 1.5 litres of water, which wasn't nearly enough. There aren't any good streams to fill up in on the way as it is all agricultural land next to the river so by the time I finished I was really dehydrated.
The route itself is really nice as a run, seeing the river slowly change in course and nature from the industrial port of Glasgow to the spectacular Falls of Clyde was interesting. The first 16km are on tarmac before more trail appears. The signage is minimal throughout except the last 10/15 km where the route is really obvious anyway. It is mostly flat with a few ups and downs towards the end, which slowed my pace on tired legs. The section getting into Strathclyde Country Park is like bashing through the jungle and there is a stream to cross which is possible over a fallen tree. It had been raining loads when I did the trail so the crossing was swollen and looked quite deep. It did mean that the Falls of Clyde were a spectacular finish to the trail, roaring and foaming with golden peaty water through the deep gorge!
