The three of us ran this route clockwise on a beautiful sunny day in spring. Conditions were good underfoot, with hardly any mud in the woodland sections. The weather was cold to start, but warmed up later on. The route is not particularly well signed and twists around a lot so GPS backup is recommended – we used a watch and phone to navigate. Apart from a few minor wrong turns, we found it easy to find our way and had a lovely couple of hours’ running.
I’d recommend this interesting city route. You start and finish at Home Park stadium and the parking there is free (but check whether there’s a footie match on first, and note there are no toilets at the start). It winds through mainly residential parts of Plymouth on a mixture of roads, parks and woodland trails, with a loop round a fort – beware the side drop into the empty moat! You end by touching a gate, Barkley-style. Did we find our inner Jasmins when approaching the finish? You bet we did.
