We started at 7AM. It was a beautiful day, though it got warm near the end, when the ocean breezes were very welcome! We ate peanut butter cookies and gels that w we brought with us and refilled on water at Lake Hodges and near the Del Mar Polo Fields that we cached there in the morning on the way to the trailhead. We had to take a short detour in the Artesian Rd area to avoid private property as much as possible. Following Kipley (thanks for such a detailed report and map!), we also detoured around the golf course as much as possible, though you have to go through it right before the polo fields. There was knee-deep water covering the road at Lusardi Creek, which we had no choice but to wade through (see picture). An adventure! Beautiful trail, lots of flowers this time of year, and a great way to see crest to coast.
