It was a windy day on the Keystone Trail, but temps were above freezing in Nebraska in February, which is always a win. I took it out with the wind at my back, meaning the first half was a blast and the second half was somewhat brutal. I carried water and nutrition, but the wind kept it cold, so I ended up with more water than I needed.
This route offers a lot of variety. The northern portion winds through residential neighborhoods, the central section dips below major city streets and passes by the med centers, and the southern section flattens out and passes through wide-open fields.
On the day of the attempt, three parts of the trail were closed for maintenance, so I had to take a detour through a baseball complex and cross a couple of streets. It didn’t derail the attempt too badly, but the GPX file goes off the trail where those closures occurred.
I wonder if the city of Omaha should rename this the "Canada Goose" trail. I saw hundreds of them on a fairly cold day in February. I guess 40-degree temps and a Taco Bell parking lot are all they need to survive the winter.
