Well that was just lovely. We'd planned the FKT for a few weeks as the course starts right where we meet anyway for our Sunday long runs. And it all went perfectly, except that like others we had to skip round the closed section of the path at Guildford.
It was warm but not hot. A breeze but no wind. Pace was honest but not crazy. Fantastic to run it as a team with Jesper Lidstrom, Jon Watts and Mark Rowland. Midlife Crisis Crew on tour! Look out - we’ll be stumbling through your town some time soon. Jesper dropped off the pace slightly after 12 miles but still finished about 7 minutes later in 2:43. He likes to point out that still makes him the Fastest Known Swede.
I did feel sorry for those sharing the train carriage with us back to Godalming though….
