Sanitas first and last. 6:24am start (probably should have started an hour earlier).
Started solo and miles 17.5 to 27 with Johara. Supported because Johara ran with me but I packed all of my own calories and bottles and refilled at natural sources and public taps.
One of the harder things I have done. Mostly type 2 fun but some type 3 moments because of the heat. 90° at the end was a killer. Debated quitting at 19 because of how hot my body was but I walked a few miles to the creek at the bottom of Shadow Canyon and that revived me. My body heat slowly built until I hopped in Boulder Creek at Eben G Fine but with the direct overhead sunlight during the climb at Sanitas I dried off quickly and got really hot again.
I also ended up falling down the backside of Sanitas with a little more than a mile to go but got back up and my body handled it fine after a little walking to loosen up my hips after they tightened.
Nutrition:
150mg caffeine drink right before
6*Precision 90g
1*Precision 30g (100mg caffeine)
5L of water consumed including refills
Next time I would pack more water storage. I packed 2L of capacity and because I used some of the water to cool myself off I only ended up drinking 5L. Jumping in two cold creeks at mile 20? and 32? helped a lot though.
Also my heart rate stopped working around mile 10. If it’s a garmin and coros compatibility issue I may have to buy a coros. Annoying that it happens regularly during longer than 2 hour activities.
Ran by a black bear up the start of the wooded steep section of Shadow Canyon.
