With a variety of terrain and beautiful views of the Potomac River, the Billy Goat Trail is an iconic route near DC. Section B of the Billy Goat has been closed for a while and it's unclear when or whether it will reopen, so the idea was to get this FKT going again, using the sections of the trail that remain open.
It was an early spring day, a little warm but also kind of windy. I went to the trail after work and began my run a bit after 5pm. I started by the bathrooms at the parking lot across from Old Angler's Inn, ran on the C&O Canal Towpath to Section A of the Billy Goat, did Section A, ran on the towpath to Section C, did Section C, and then ran on the towpath back to the bathrooms. It's not a terribly long route and it wasn't terribly warm so I didn't bring fuel nor fluids, the later of which was probably a mistake. I felt nauseous early on, probably from some combination of worrying about breaking a bone on the notoriously technical Section A, lacking fluids, being overdressed, and eating too big of a snack on my drive to the trail. After slowing down some and taking a layer off, I felt better and finished well.
Glad to get this amended route started and I believe it could definitely be done quicker.
