I love the scramble up Old Rag and hadn’t been on it in a few years. Adding Robertson is a nice way to have a few more miles and a slightly different type of climbing. When I learned this was an FKT route and there wasn’t a women’s time yet, I figured I’d have a go at it.
With the recent heat wave gone, much improved air quality, no rain for days, and a day off, it seemed like it’d be a good day to try. I guess I wasn’t alone in thinking it’d be a nice day for an adventure because the parking lot at Old Rag was full by 8:15am. On a Monday! Made a couple of brief navigation mistakes during the scramble, but it was still so fun. Later, climbing up Old Rag Fire Road, I questioned myself and began to worry that I’d missed the turn onto Robertson. I had 1 mile up the fire road in my brain, but it’s actually a little over 2 miles. And it felt even longer. Then my legs felt like twizzlers descending Robertson and Weakley Hollow Fire Road. There’s room for improvement, but happy to get the women’s time started. What a wonderful day to play in the mountains.
Hope many other women go for this one.
