The day started shortly after 6am at mile zero. Perfect weather for the day, sunny, clear skies and cooler temperatures. Since I was doing this unsupported, I carried all my nutrition and water I would need for the day. I left my truck at the trailhead, figured that would be motivation to make sure to return! I was a little concerned with the weight of the extra water to carry, and for the first 15 miles, until I used the first bottle, it was difficult. My pack stood up very well, in spite of the weight, and worked out better than expected. I was hoping to get through the turn around before 10am, but only arrived at Palgrave, around mile 19, at 10:15 am. That put me at the turn around at 4hrs : 51 mins, a little behind schedule. I did the route solo as well as unsupported, which made for a long day alone on the trail. The plan was to stop at mile 30-31on the return, in Caledon East, with an extended stop. I wanted to make sure to eat solid food at this time and set myself up for the final push to the end. One look at the sandwiches I brought with me and I re-packed and moved on. My stomach just didn't want the sandwich. I paid the price, by mile 33 I was down to a hike. Attempts to run were met with little to no energy. My nutrition for the day consisted of water, Scratch Labs mix and Honey Stinger waffles. Since the terrain was flat, it allowed me to push on. I arrived back at Mile zero at 10:49:36. Finishing was awesome, especially after putting in the time to put the project together. I hope someone sees the result and it motivates a much better runner to take hours off my time. With no races happening right now, maybe this is a way to find community and healthy competition.
