Great morning to be in the Green Mountains. Mt. Abe has long been my favorite mountain in Vermont (move over Camels Hump and Mansfield), so it felt fitting to try and attack the FKT going up and down it. The combination of the views of the Adirondacks, the long spiny Greens, and the looming northern part of the historic LongTrail creates a truly breathtaking view from the top. Today was no different. While I wish I could have stayed longer to admire this beauty, that was obviously not the goal of the effort! I warmed up around 9 am from the parking lot and started my effort at about 9:19. I did not carry anything other than a tshirt, halftights, and hoka speedgoats. I took the t-shirt off after a few minutes and snagged it back on the way down. My ascent was about 40mins and my descent was about 21 (strava segments shows exact times), making my return time about 10:20 am (1:01:20 total). Definitely could have gone under an hour with my current fitness considering I rolled my ankle super hard near the end and basically hobbled the last few minutes. Happy with the ascent, but even happier with how fast I was able to get down since the conditions were pretty sub-par (very wet, leafy, and muddy). Nothing else to really say except I am tired, happy, and ready for someone to go even faster!
