Short & quick ascent of Kang Yaze II (6250 m.a.s.l.), a popular easy mountaineering summit in Ladakh: On 11.8.2026, having climbed the mountain slowly two days prior, I started at 05:16h in the morning from the center of Kang Yaze basecamp, at the stupa at the center of the basecamp, at 5060 m.a.s.l.
I ran with my own food and water, wearing mountaineering boots, with poles, and a pair of crampons in my running vest. My friend Karuna Sah documented the start with photos. I ran/hiked to the snowline at around 5700 m, put on crampons and continued over snow to the summit at 6250 m, passing a group of Indian climbers at the shoulder at around 6000 m. I reached the summit after exactly 1h26min. There, I paused for 5' to take pictures and catch my breath. Then, I ran back down, passing the climbers again (almost in the same spot), reaching the snowline, where I took off the crampons. Shortly after, I passed my friend Karuna Sah, who was taking pictures of me. I finished at the basecamp after a downhill of 29 minutes from the summit, totalling 2h00min41seconds from basecamp to summit and back (including the break on the summit). I used two soft flasks with electrolytes and two small Snickers bars. In my running vest I carried gloves, a radio, an emergency jacket, and the crampons.
