I've done this a few times before, anticlockwise, but my normal running partners were busy so I settled for a good audio book - Adharanand Finn The Way of the Runner.
I was aiming for 10 mins/mile pace. Took 2.5L of Hi 5 energy drink, 2 bottles and a bladder, and enough powder to make up the same again. I wore standard road trainers but at several points wished I'd worn trail shoes on the gravel sections.
The weather was perfect to start with - cloudy, no wind and a little on the cool side. However the clouds when away it and the sun came out!
I paused at Ferry Meadows to top up water and use the toilets.
Between miles 24-28 had really sore stomach pains - too much liquid? - so had to lower the pace. Also had to stop several times to remove stones from my shoes. Only got stopped at the rail crossing for 2-3 mins which is really good. Can be much longer!
At 36 miles the top of right foot started hurting, over tight laces?, so the pacing went out the window.
Overall good-ish run. The only taper was that I only ran 2 miles the day before.
