Staring at 1844 on 07-Jun-24 from Outside in Harthersage the forecasted rain luckily stayed away which made for a glorious evening. Taking a clockwise direction a road section quickly led to the first checkpoint at Leadmill Bridge after which I turned right into fields and moorland all the way up to Shatton Moor Mast, which presented great views and visibility of the route ahead.
From here followed a steep descent to Bradwell before climbing and passing the 3rd checkpoint at the Limestone Way cross roads and continuing to climb to the Mam Tor trig point which I reached at 2039 (10 miles and 1hr 55 mins in). A beautiful run across the skyline as dusk was settling I passed Hollins Cross before reaching the next checkpoint at Lose Hill.
The route then loses all the elevation and drops into Hope before climbing again to Win Hill. I began the climb starting to feel fatigued at 14 miles in, definitely the hardest and steepest section of the round. Powering through I reached Win Hill trig point just as it was getting dark.
It’s then down hill to Bamford where navigation started to become tricky through woodland in the dark and with tiredness settling in I went wrong in a few places and had to double back on myself. A few more lumps along the way past the last checkpoint at Nether Hurst Farm and after a scary part through a field of cows with their eyes glowing in my head torch brought me through the Hathersage cricket field before hitting the main road and a run back to the Outside shop.
Happy to finish under 4 hours in 3 hr 55 at 2239.
