Solo, unsupported run, carry supplies from start to finish. Didn’t re-fill water at any point: consumed just under 1litre.
Following a largely dry week ground conditions were good, but I still managed to find the odd bog up to my knees!
Weather was drizzly to start but dried up after first hour. Overcast most of the morning with medium Northerly winds - gusting at 30ish mph so not insignificant. Second half was easier with a tailwind.
Didn’t choose the best lines from High Seat down to Outhgill so made life hard for myself, but haven’t been on route since my previous running of the challenge in 2021 so it’s no surprise on such tricky terrain.

Something to note: the route starts/finishes at the Moorcock Inn. This pub is now closed unfortunately, but the owner has opened a lovely tea room round the back of the pub, called the Moorcock Licensed Tea Room. It’s the perfect spot to grab homemade cakes, hot snacks and refreshments before/after your day in the hills, and it’s always good to support these businesses. The National Park are trying to close the tearoom as they only want her open as a full pub, which in this economic climate is financially unviable, so it’s really important for the public to show support by using the amazing tea room facility and showing it’s worth. There’s nothing else for miles around so if you want a well-earned treat, this place provides an invaluable service.
