This summit was the final part of a 5 day bike-packing trip across the San Juan's tagging the summits of a bunch of 13er's. I tried this route the previous day but got turned around due to bad hail and lightning above tree line. This day I took it pretty easy, not sure what i was going to encounter, got lost once at some dead fall on the skyline trail (wasn't that bad though, gps helped me get back on track) I did run into two big moose on the way down that were very close to the trail, so I detoured across the top of some loose cliffs for a while to keep my distance from them. Overall it was a nice easy run, almost all of the trail is good quality and mostly runnable, the final 1000' to the summit is steep. I'll definitely be going back for a faster time. There is water in the creek for the first 5 miles up and then again at the basin at the base of the peak (as long as the moose aren't hanging out there still).
