Description

The Rio Grande Pyramid is an impressive 13'er (13,810'ft) sitting by itself in a far corner of the San Juan mountains. It is an incredible summit because of its prominence and lack of tall surrounding peaks. It is also a pretty remote summit by most standards. The route starts at the Rio Grande reservoir at Thirty Mile Campground and trailhead. It follows the beautiful Weminuche trail along the lake, up a canyon and through alpine meadows to a subtle saddle before turning a bit steeper on the traversing Skyline Trail. A final long and steep scramble takes you to the amazing summit at about 9.6 miles. Route is from trailhead to trailhead.
