Starting off at 6 am from Väven, my friend Elin and I ran independently of each other along the 43-kilometre hiking trail “Tavelsjöleden”. Despite overcast skies and a temperature between 15-20 degrees, we quickly struggled to stay hydrated as the FKT rules dictate that you can only get water at publicly available water taps (of which there is only one along the trail, located at Hamptjärnsstugan). Nevertheless, we had a great run and got to experience the varied and beautiful nature that this trail has to offer, from sandy pine forests to rocky climbs. Some parts are fairly technical, especially as you get closer to Tavelsjö, so I am quite happy with having completed the entire trail in 5 hours and 31 minutes. Still, considering how many fast and capable trail runners there are in the Umeå area, I have no doubt that others can do it much faster. Thus, more than a dead-serious FKT effort, I like to think of my run as an invitation to go out and challenge yourself.
