I did a recce the day before by car and by foot to ensure that I was confident with the route as, to my knowledge, this is the first attempt at a Carriacou round island circumnavigation.
Uncertain of how long this first attempt would take, I chose to set off in the early hours of the morning at 3.30am when it’s cooler.
After an easy warm up on the flat road from the capital Hillsborough towards the airport, I navigated by headtorch through the mangrove and came out at Paradise Beach. I was greeted there by my mum and her partner. The two of them continued to support me throughout the run, meeting me at key waypoints with a Land Rover stuffed with my set up of hydration and nutrition and plenty of welcome support!
After this point, it was a matter of following the course outlined. Starting early paid off, as I got to see the early morning light and I was finished before the heat started to significantly rise.
I was finally met back at Hillsborough to finish at 7.55am in a time of 04:25:20
