Wanted to attempt the Lake Apopka Circumnavigation FKT with the goal of running a sub-7 hour effort. Started at 3:16am from Killarney Station on the West Orange Trail heading clockwise around the lake. Went unsupported carrying around 60oz. of tailwind and two packs of honey stinger chews. Had a couple of wrong turns at Green Mountain & the Northeast side of the lake that added around 3/4 of a mile to the overall distance. Other than those user-errors, course was fairly easy to follow. Appreciate the advice of route creator Jim Porter to get the highway miles out of the way at the start. Ran the first 10ish mile section early in the morning with little traffic, which worked well with the lack of shoulder on that stretch. Only sketchy portion came between the short distance exiting the Lake Apopka trail and getting to sidewalks that eventually connected with the West Orange Trail. Enjoyed the mostly shady last 81/2 miles on the WOT including the markers every 1/10 of a mile. Overall, mild weather & running 2/3 of the course at night made for an enjoyable experience! Thanks again to Jim for the concept of circumnavigating the lake :)
