On July 18, 2015, Royce Jacomen, Trevor Stewart, Jordan Chang, and Chris Larson completed (supported) point to point the New River trail from Galax, VA to Pulaski, VA (Xaloy Drive). Total time: 10 hours 25 minutes 23 seconds, Moving Time: 9 hours 23 minutes 7 seconds.
Started at 8:23 PM, Friday, July 17 from the Galax trail end parking lot. Food and water stops at mile 27, 40, and 46 thanks to Brett Sherfy (ran 27 of it and met us along the way).
The New River Trail follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way. The park parallels the scenic and historic New River for 39 miles and passes through four counties and the city of Galax.
- Two tunnels: 135 feet and 193 feet long
- Three major bridges: Hiwassee - 951 feet; Ivanhoe - 670 feet; Fries Junction - 1,089 feet
- Nearly 30 smaller bridges and trestles
- A historic shot tower used more than 200 years ago to make ammunition
