I’ve wanted to give this thing another go for a long time, and Max’s record has intrigued me as a goal I might just barely be able to beat. I felt like my fitness as of late has been pretty good, so I decided to give it a go this weekend with the decent weather still hanging around. I started in the dark at 6:15 am, up to the top of south in about 1:45, top of middle around 3:22, and north at around 4:26. I then tumbled down north the fastest I ever have and made it to pole creek, stopping my gps track at 5:49:27. I know it’s not much of an improvement, but that was literally the best I could do. I would love to have taken a few more minutes off the record, but I had to sprint like hell at the bottom to get this time. I was behind every split I had set for myself, and really didn’t think I stood a chance until I saw Pole Creek with 5 minutes to spare. The bowling alley on North was definitely icy, similar to Max’s effort, so that cost a few minutes. I brought all my stuff with me, was totally solo, and in the end didn’t need to refill on water. I also feel like I don’t need to do this traverse again anytime soon, I’m happy with the effort. Oh, and I did have a permit.
