What a day living this 6 year dream of mine. It was only possible because of a stellar crew of friends and well wishers. It was beautiful to see how everyone in Bir came around to help me get it done. From those who showed up at the start at 3.30am to other small acts of kindness, I’m grateful for all of your support.
95% technical trail with the highest altitude at 4700mts (Thamsar pass). River crossings, landslides, glaciers and steep remote mountain terrain. No one believed me when I said I want to do this in a day, but I set myself a target of 12 hours to make it interesting.
Reached Panihartoo, the base of Thamsar pass at 3500mts in 6 hours 5 mins elapsed covering 33kms with 3000mts of elevation gain. There was a foot deep fresh snow towards the pass that made things extra slow. After reaching the top of the pass at 8 hours 36mins covering 37kms 4200mts gain, I was excited to run downhill only to realise that it’s gonna be a sufferfest.
Slipping and sliding on the snow, I had to break trail for 5kms on the downhill, barely making any progress. It was more like falling forward than running downhill. The last 10-12kms included a 2200 mts sharp technical descent, racing against the clock to try and make in under 12 hours.
For this being my longest time on feet, I’m pretty proud of how I nailed my pacing, nutrition and mindset. Even though I was stumbling, the legs felt strong on the downhill, even pushing hard in the last couple of kms. Couldn’t have been a more dramatic finish!
Grateful to live this epic day doing what I love and thankful for the support of a huge crew! Blessed.
PS : The 2 days spent living the slow life and recovering in Bada Bhangal away from network were the most memorable part of this journey!
