Landlocked between towering mountains on all sides, lies the remote village of Bada Bhangal at 2600mts above sea level. One of the few remaining villages in Himachal Pradesh India that is inaccessible by road. It takes 4 days of hiking from Bir for locals while crossing the mighty Thamsar pass at 4600mts to reach the village!
A true Himalayan point-to-point through one of the most remote corners of the Dhauladhar. The route starts from the landing site at Bir, climbing 1600mts through the Thati forest and eventually descending into Rajgundha. Another 15kms of remote technical terrain with increasing altitude gets you to Panihartoo (the base of the mightly Thamsar pass at 4700mts asl). After a 1200m gain to traverse the pass it sharply descends 2200mts within 15 kms deep into the isolated valley of Bada Bhangal.
52.5 kms of rugged, highly technical mountain terrain, with river crossings, landslide sections, scree, snow, glaciers and a massive descent from the high Himalaya into Bada Bhangal. The route combines a clear start and finish, a single iconic high-altitude crossing, and a trail that can be followed and repeated by future runners.
A route built to become an Indian FKT classic — setting a new standard for what an FKT route can be in India.
