I completed the Cove to Cove route from Porteau Cove to Deep Cove in 9:25:00. My attempt took place during a RunUphill organized every . The event provided participants with access to three drop bag locations, as outlined in the athlete guide. I did not use any of these drop bag locations or receive any external assistance from them during my run. The only drop bag I had transported was to Deep Cove for after I had completed the route.
During the attempt, I refilled my water from a stream before Deeks Lake and used public water fountains at Cleveland Dam and Mountain Highway. I carried my own nutrition throughout the route.
At the beginning of the route, I ran alongside a runner who was completing the relay event before continuing on my own from shortly before Deeks Lake. I also benefited from the presence of other runners who had started earlier, which gave the effort some of the atmosphere and competitive motivation of an organized event. I was also chasing Jennie Labrie’s stout time from earlier this week, which gave me an extra bit of motivation throughout the run. Hopefully, many more people will give this beautiful line a go in the future. I’m sure it can be brought down to under 9 hours.
