Monday, 4th of March was the day marked on the calendar to climb Ojos.
Chris, Kat and I were staying at Atacama Camp (5200m). It was 8:30am, it was snowing ❄️
I had everything packed. I would start soon.
8:36am. Watch on, it was time.
The way to Refugio Tejos (5800m) was fast. It took me 1h 05’ to reach it. From there, it would become more steep.
Then, the clouds came. At 6500m everything was white, still snowing and the path covered. I was enjoying.
From time to time the light was so similar to the color of the snow that it took two glances to check the right path, but then I was standing on the crater. The gully was getting closer.
More snow, one foot in front of the other. The minutes passed and I saw Chris, Conor and Ty, coming from the summit.
It was time to climb the gully and make it to the top.
There it was, the beautiful summit, all covered in snow, standing at 6893m.
My watch announced 4h 08’ since I had started. I was happy, for being there again, standing on the highest volcano in the world, and for being able to be the first woman, hoping that more will feel inspired and motivated to do it in the same way.
